Background

Sunrise and sunset, the light of day fading into darkness and sleep – all of this going on for millions of years… every living thing coming to a standstill in order to continue the fight for a place under the sun when the next day dawns.
It was, however, only with the arrival of man, that “delight in creation” – the aesthetic appreciation of beauty – was born.
Key concept

The painting metaphorically represents the stillness of sunset when the birds quit singing, the waters of the river seem to stop flowing and the sun is hanging in the air like a ripe fruit before slipping between the sheets of the horizon.
At this time of day, thousands of people get out into the open to enjoy the twilight extravaganza and see the sun setting in the hope of welcoming it time and again.
